PayPal is a convenient money transfer service that allows users to send and receive funds internationally.

In South Africa, the service was introduced in partnership with First National Bank (FNB). In order to be able to use the service in South Africa, you need to make sure that you have an FNB cheque account.

PayPal is the most well-known global payment gateway. The service has more than 100 million active users in over 190 countries.

What are some of the benefits of getting a PayPal account?

  • Using PayPal allows you to shop safely and securely online
  • You can earn credit card points on purchases
  • Operating a PayPal account is free

How to link an FNB Bank Account to PayPal:

Go to your PayPal account and add you bank card. To do this you can simply fill in the numbers on your card.

PayPal will deduct R20 from your FNB account to confirm that the bank card and bank account are really yours.

About 3 to 6 days later you will get a statement reflecting that R20 transaction along with a code.

Fill in the code in the appropriate place in your PayPal account.

Your card will be confirmed.

PayPal will pay the R20 back to you.

You then need to go to your FNB online account and follow the steps to the link your online FNB account to your PayPal account.

Log into PayPal. It will look like you are about to pay for something, but it’s not a payment. This is just the final step of linking your online FNB account to your PayPal account.

You’ll be taken back to your FNB online account page.

Click “Finish” to link an FNB Bank Account to PayPal.

You can then withdraw money from PayPal into your FNB account. The amount will clear in 5 to 8 days.
