Can you get a credit card with Capitec?

The simple answer is no, you can’t yet get a credit card with Capitec. The bank does however offer credit solutions through its Global One facility.

The Global One facility allows users to use the card as a credit card. According to the bank, Global One offers “credit without the credit”. So you can use the card to make purchases online and connect your card to PayPal, giving you the power of a credit card.

You can also apply for a credit facility which is ideal for your daily needs. You can get up to R5000, which is repayable in full every month.

Applying is easy. Here’s what you need to apply:

  • Provide a valid South African ID

  • Provide original proof of residence

Your credit estimate is based on your credit history with other credit providers and a calculation of your affordability. As a registered credit provider, Capitec only provides credit to individuals who aren’t over-indebted, who will be able to afford to make repayments.

You can apply at any of the various Capitec branches nationwide or you can apply online by SMSing your name, surname and ID number to 30605.

Successful applicants will be approved in minutes.
